PIP ADHD How Much: Rates for 2026/27

PIP and ADP Rates for 2026/27

PIP and Adult Disability Payment are paid at the same rates across the UK. There are two components — daily living and mobility — each with a standard and enhanced tier. From April 2026:

Component Standard Rate Enhanced Rate
Daily Living £76.70/week £114.60/week
Mobility £30.30/week £80.00/week

You can qualify for one or both components independently. The maximum combined award is £194.60 per week (£778.40 every four weeks, roughly £10,119 per year).

How Points Determine Your Rate

Each component is scored separately. You need at least 8 points from the relevant activities to get the standard rate, and 12 or more for the enhanced rate. Only the highest-scoring descriptor for each activity counts — they do not stack within a single activity, but they do add up across activities.

Daily living has 10 activities covering everything from preparing food to making budgeting decisions. Mobility has 2 activities: planning and following journeys, and moving around.

What ADHD Claimants Typically Receive

When ADHD claims succeed, around 49% of awards include the enhanced daily living rate and about 25% include enhanced mobility. The average weekly award across successful ADHD claims is approximately £117.72.

These figures reflect that ADHD affects daily living activities broadly — executive dysfunction touches preparing food, managing medication, engaging with people, making financial decisions and more — so points accumulate across multiple activities rather than scoring highly on just one.

Mobility points for ADHD usually come from Activity 1 (planning and following journeys) rather than Activity 2 (moving around). Severe distractibility, sensory overload and temporal blindness during travel can score 4 to 12 points depending on the level of support needed.

What an Award Unlocks Beyond the Payment

PIP and ADP at certain rates open the door to other support:

  • Carer's Allowance (or Carer Support Payment in Scotland) — the carer must provide at least 35 hours a week and meet the other eligibility rules, including that you receive a qualifying benefit and the carer's earnings after tax, National Insurance and allowable expenses are £204 or less a week. The 2026/27 Carer's Allowance rate is £86.45 a week.
  • Motability scheme — enhanced mobility rate lets you lease an adapted vehicle
  • Blue Badge — automatic in some cases with enhanced mobility; rules vary by nation
  • Universal Credit — your PIP evidence can support a Limited Capability for Work assessment, though this is assessed separately
  • Council Tax reduction — eligibility depends on your local authority's separate scheme; receiving PIP does not automatically reduce your bill

Getting the Right Award

The difference between zero points and an enhanced rate often comes down to how well your application describes the functional impact of ADHD on each activity, particularly around the reliability criteria — whether you can do things safely, repeatedly, to an acceptable standard and within a reasonable time.

The PIP and Adult Disability Payment for ADHD claim guide breaks down how each of the 12 activities applies to ADHD and provides structured worksheets for documenting your daily living difficulties across all three UK jurisdictions.
