PIP ADHD Free Help: Welfare Rights Services and Where to Get Support

Free support is available for many parts of a PIP or ADP claim, but the type of help and local availability vary. A commercial claims company is not the only option: welfare rights advisers may be able to help for free, depending on where you live. The challenge is knowing who does what — and managing the waiting lists that come with high demand.

Citizens Advice

Citizens Advice services in England, Wales, and Scotland offer free, confidential benefits advice. Support is local: advisers may help with forms or Mandatory Reconsiderations, and tribunal representation is not available from every office. Where offered, an adviser can go through each PIP2 question with you and help you explain how ADHD affects daily activities in terms that match the descriptors.

The limitation: Local offices face severe demand. Waiting lists for a form-filling appointment can run several weeks — which clashes with the one-month PIP2 return deadline. If you can't get an appointment in time, phone Citizens Advice's helpline for guidance on filling in the form yourself, then book an appointment for a later stage.

Local Welfare Rights Services

Most local councils employ welfare rights teams who specialise in benefit claims and challenges. They often have shorter waiting lists than Citizens Advice and provide the same quality of support — form completion, evidence gathering, Mandatory Reconsideration letters, and tribunal representation.

Search your local council's website for "welfare rights" or phone the council and ask. In Northern Ireland, Law Centre NI provides specialist legal advice for PIP challenges.

ADHD-Specific Charities

ADHD UK and ADDISS provide educational resources about ADHD and benefits, peer support communities, and links to local support services. They don't typically fill in forms for you, but their communities include people who've been through the PIP process and can share practical experience.

ADHD Foundation runs information sessions and can signpost you to local advocacy support.

What Free Services Can't Do

Free services help with the process — forms, evidence, representation. What they generally can't provide is ADHD-specific structured evidence-gathering tools: printable worksheets that map your daily functioning to every descriptor, worked examples showing how to describe executive dysfunction in the language assessors score, or reliability-framework checklists.

A structured ADHD claim guide fills that gap — working alongside free advice services, not replacing them. The guide helps you organise your evidence before an appointment, so you use your limited time with an adviser as efficiently as possible.
